TMS Therapy
Non-invasive treatment for depression and more.
TMS Treatment
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It is used to treat various mental health conditions, including: Major depressive disorder, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Anxiety disorders, and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
How TMS Works
- A magnetic coil is placed against the scalp over the target area of the brain.
- The coil generates rapid pulses of magnetic fields that penetrate the skull and stimulate nerve cells.
- These pulses can alter brain activity and improve symptoms.
Treatment Protocol
- TMS treatment typically involves daily sessions for 4-6 weeks.
- Each session lasts about 20-40 minutes.
- Patients may experience mild sensations, such as tingling or tapping, during treatment.
Benefits
- Non-invasive and painless
- Can be effective for patients who have not responded to other treatments
- May improve mood and reduce symptoms
Side Effects
- Mild and temporary side effects may include headache, scalp discomfort, and trouble concentrating.
- Serious side effects are rare.
Eligibility
- TMS is typically prescribed by a psychiatrist.
- Patients must meet certain criteria, such as having a diagnosed mental health condition and not responding to other treatments.
