TMS Treatment

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It is used to treat various mental health conditions, including: Major depressive disorder, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Anxiety disorders, and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

How TMS Works

  • A magnetic coil is placed against the scalp over the target area of the brain.
  • The coil generates rapid pulses of magnetic fields that penetrate the skull and stimulate nerve cells.
  • These pulses can alter brain activity and improve symptoms.

Treatment Protocol

  • TMS treatment typically involves daily sessions for 4-6 weeks.
  • Each session lasts about 20-40 minutes.
  • Patients may experience mild sensations, such as tingling or tapping, during treatment.

Benefits

  • Non-invasive and painless
  • Can be effective for patients who have not responded to other treatments
  • May improve mood and reduce symptoms

Side Effects

  • Mild and temporary side effects may include headache, scalp discomfort, and trouble concentrating.
  • Serious side effects are rare.

Eligibility

  • TMS is typically prescribed by a psychiatrist.
  • Patients must meet certain criteria, such as having a diagnosed mental health condition and not responding to other treatments.
